New Additions to SF Medical Cannabis Scene

I'm a community liaison for Americans for Safe Access in the San Francisco Bay Area. I provide direct services and support to patients, medical cannabis dispensing collectives (MCD's), and others in our community.

Last year the federal government, using a series of tactics to shut down safe access across the state of California and the rest of the country initiated a crackdown on medical cannabis providers. Sending threat letters to government officials and landlords leading to the shut down of dispensing centers across the state, including San Francisco. Safe access to medical cannabis was in jeopardy, so we took a stand for safe access! This past week I had the pleasure of welcoming two newly opened MCD's to the SF medical cannabis scene, while each having their own distinct style.

Barbary Coast located at at 952 Mission St. near Mint Plaza. It's the second union shop organized by United Food and Commercial Workers in San Francisco. It has a very classy look and feel of a library, cocktail lounge or a lawyers office, with a lot of wood and leather. The dispensary is paying for armed security and cleanup crews, along with community improvements in Mint Plaza.

Bloom Room located at 471 Jesse St had a more modern, sleek design and feel to it, with exposed brick walls and translucent glass marijuana leaf panels. Just steps from the front door of Mezzanine, Bloom Room employs many of the staff and management from Medithrive, the Mission Street dispensary was was forced by the feds to close back in November of 2011.

Make sure to stop by welcome these new additions and thank them for committing acts of civil disobedience every day in the name of providing safe access to patients in need of medicine.
