Honor Vets With Cannabis
How can we say we honor our brave soldiers who served our country so valiantly, when we won't even allow them to use a therapeutic substance that's safer and more effective in dealing with PTSD and pain than most prescribed drugs.
"Every day, approximately 22 American veterans commit suicide, totaling over 8,000 veteran suicides each year — I repeat, 8,000 veteran suicides each year.” –Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Senate hearing, Feb. 3, 2015
Under the Veterans Medical Marijuana Safe Harbor Act, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) physicians would be empowered to issue medical cannabis recommendations in accordance with the laws of a growing number of states.
The legislation, sponsored by Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Brian Schatz (D-HI), also makes it legal under federal law for military veterans to “use, possess, or transport medical marijuana in accordance with the laws of the State in which the use, possession, or transport occurs.”
A growing number of military veterans use medical cannabis to treat PTSD, chronic pain and other mental and physical war wounds.
And studies have already shown the benefits of marijuana for those suffering from PTSD
A study at Israel's University of Haifa showed that marijuana administered to rats within 24 hours of suffering psychological trauma effectively blocked the development of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Sen Bill Nelson who's win in Florida is being challenged by Governor Rick Scott and is heading for recount is same Bill Nelson that introduced Veterans Medical Marijuana Safe Harbor Act. Rick Scott has a horrific record on medical marijuana as Governor, and I really hope that he loses.
