When SF Chose To Close Dispensaries During Pandemic

When San Francisco sent out a notice to close dispensaries during coronavirus shelter in place we jumped into action. On Monday, May 18th we found out San Francisco dispensaries in businesses got notice they would have to shut down because they were not considered an essential business. We immediately started organizing, doing outreach to San Francisco officials and building a coalition creating a sign-on letter and petition. Don, Sarah, Debbie, and other ASA staff looked over the letter I drafted.

Petition and sign on a letter went out Tuesday morning. With the help of Nina Parks, Madam Chair of the San Francisco Cannabis Oversight Committee, Ramon Garcia, co-founder of SF Equity Working Group and Distribution Manager Padre Mu, and Andrea Brooks, CEO of Sava, we were able to get almost two dozen companies and organizations to sign on by 3 pm. We had around 1,200 supporters of petition and people working back channels having convos with city hall officials. The Mayor + DPH announced access would be considered an essential business Tuesday around 4:20 by Twitter!!!
