August 16th ASA SF Meeting

Tonight's ASA SF meeting went well. We had around 50 attendees. We discussed the latest news and information related to medical cannabis for our local community & then we took action; writing letters in order to let our representatives know where we stand on medical cannabis.

We discussed Attorney General Kamala Harris’ new proposed guidelines for medical cannabis, and the demographics of a California Medical Cannabis patient.

We made some announcements; 1st about the ASA SF Emergency Response Training, this Friday, August 19th , 1 pm – 5 pm, Room 416, SF City Hall.  This event is primarily geared towards MCD owners and employees, but all are welcome. In light of the recent federal activity against medical cannabis communities across the country, now more than ever, we must join together to prepare our community for the next steps we will take to protect safe access in California. Then next week we have the ASA SF Stakeholders Meeting, Friday, August 26th, 7 pm -9 pm, 847 Howard Street, San Francisco. This event is primarily geared towards patients and advocates, but all are welcome. We know that the best policies are made when an educated and empowered grassroots base participates in the process. One of the goals of this of this event is to get patients and their caregivers back in front of the local, state, and federal campaign for safe access! Admission is free for both these events. These meetings are a great way for patients, providers, activists and others to plug in and make a difference.

And then we took action; writing letters to Senators Boxer and Feinstein, and Representative Pelosi encouraging them to support HR 1983, the Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act. H.R. 1983 would block the federal prosecution of patients in states that allow medical cannabis. Many in attendance wrote letters and thanked us for this opportunity. We will even be mailing these letters to our representatives on behalf of those attendees so they don’t have to worry about it.

You can reach your Representative by calling the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121. Or take action online now at AmericansForSafeAccess.org/NewBills.
