Not all alcohol experiences are the same
I recently heard someone in cannabis say all alcohol experiences are basically the same, you feel drunk… But real drinkers know that is not entirely true. A whiskey high or buzz will be different from a tequila or mezcal high. Why? #Terpenes. Whiskey has terpenes which make you sleepy, and tequila or mezcal contains terpenes that are stimulating.
There’s a terpene in my beer💦🍺
Hops are a key ingredient in beer production. One reason is that they contain terpenes, which are chemical compounds that help determine how beer tastes and smells.
Myrcene: This is one of the most common types of terpene, also found in cannabis. It creates that dank character common to both hops and marijuana. Myrcene gives certain beers pungent, earthy, grassy and vegetal characteristics. It’s commonly found in IPAs, especially dry-hopped versions.
Some common terpenes found in wine are Geraniol, Linalool, Citronellol, and A-Terpineol. The amount of terpenes a grape produces can vary depending on the particular grape variety, soil and weather conditions, farming practices, etc.
Limonene is one of the terpenes found in tequila and mezcal, and myrcene can be found in whiskey too.
Makes sense, because a whiskey a buzz is a more sedating experience than a tequila or mezcal buzz.
